Gracie's Art Raffle Prize!

Me: YAY! I FINALLY DID IT!!!
You Guys: What did you do?
Me: I FINISHED GRACIE'S ART FOR THE RAFFLEEEEE!!! AND IT ONLY TOOK ME ABOUT TWO HOURS OR SOMETHINGGGG!!!!
You Guys: 2 HOURS!? Swirl, it should NOT take that long to just make Gracie's main animal!
Me: SHUSHHHHH, DON'T QUESTION MY ART SKILLSSSSS!
You Guys: But-
Me: I SAID SHUSHHHHH!!!!!!!

XD! You all KNOW I can't go more than a week or two without doing my traditional Swirlshine-intro!

Anyways, yes, it's true- I've finished Gracie's art at last, and I'm pretty proud of how it turned out!
However, to fill up this post, I decided "Hey, why not show my process, like some of the other AJAC authors do?"
So that's what you'll be getting today! :D

First, I drew the basic outline of a wolf (I draw wolves and arctic wolves about the same way), then added some markings in the fur. After that, I started adding some accessories- I drew the lines on the Raccoon Tail and the Silk Scarf first, as you can see!

Next, I added the Longbow on her wolf's back, and drew the "gizmo" pattern, as I like to call it, on the chest fur.

The Longbow couldn't just be floating there, so I added the thick strap over the back of the wolf that it's attached to! I also added an eye, as well as some light notes to help me remember what was gray and what was white, since I was getting tired of switching back and forth from YouTube to my Gracie reference on Google, XD!

Of course, Gracie's main look isn't complete without her Pigtails! I tried something new-ish with the curled piece of hair, and put it in the front (or the middle, depending on how you look at it)of the Pigtails item, and I really like how it turned out! I also started on the Horseshoe Ring!

Here's the uncolored version of the finished art! Whoops, ignore those words- I hadn't erased them yet, XD!
I also added a lil' star reflection in her wolf's eye, because... well... GraciepopSTAR? Get it?
I'll stop now.
Anyways, I like to add a sparkle of some sort in my wizard wolf's eyes sometimes, so I decided to try it here! It's probably super hard to see in this pic...

DARN, this was the ONE picture I forgot to flip horizontally! Sorry about that!

... So here's this close-up to show you that super-tiny detail, XDD!

And finally... here we are! The COMPLETELY COLORED version! I'm super happy with how this turned out- I thought the head might be a bit too small, but it doesn't really show much anymore, so YAY! XD!
I WAS going to add some more details to this picture, but I figured a couple hours was long enough to work on this. XDD!
Also, if the gray doesn't exactly look QUITE gray to you (although it looks a lot better in this picture than I thought it did IRL), I apologize- my gray colored pencil seems to have a mind of its own!

I hope you enjoy your art, Gracie, and I hope you all enjoyed this post! I apologize if it seemed a bit short to you- I was trying to get this up before it got too late to do so! Anyways, until next time, this is Swirlshine, reminding you to PARTY HARD, BE KIND, and JAM ON! 😉

I don't know what I'm doing

Heyo, folks!  Crazcatlover here and I'm sleep deprived and sick, and I have no idea what to do for this post so I'm just going to start typing and roll with whatever the results!  Preeeetty sure that the results are going to be very strange, but hopefully strange in an amusing way.  Hopefully.

Honestly, I haven't logged onto Animal Jam in like, a week.  Like, seriously.  For the longest time, unusual was the day when I didn't log onto Animal Jam.  Well, I guess I better change that seeing as I have to write a blog post about Animal Jam and art things.

Oh.  AJ updated.  Uhhhh HAPPY NIGHT OF THE PHANTOMSSSS!  (Also, how did I get 9 Jam-A-Grams???  Er, some Jam-A-Grams, a ton of buddy requests, and an advertisement from AJ trying to get me to buy toys, rather.  Still, how?)

Anyways, I guess since it's Night of The Phantoms, I might as well draw a phantom.

Ta-da!  Meet Clyde.  Clyde is a falling phantom.  He doesn't like his job, though.  He's afraid of heights.  And fire.  But every day, non-stop, he must be launched from the volcano on fire in order to stop Jammers from... something.  He doesn't know.  All he knows is he does it.  But Clyde just wants to be loved.  So, one Night of the Phantoms, he decides to sneak out of the volcano and explore Jamaa Township, and then he gets adopted by a kind Jammer, and they lived happily ever after, with Clyde never being launched from a fiery volcano ever again.

Oooookaaaaay, not my best art (or story) by any means.  Bear with me here, I'm sleep deprived and sick.  I'm trying to entertain you.  Am I entertaining you?  I guess if you've read up to this point you must be entertained, or at the very least you're just too lazy to leave the page.  Either way, if you aren't already entertained, I know a way to entertain you!  A giveaway!  People like those, right?

So, uh, YOU get to be the kind Jammer who adopts Clyde!  Er, one of you.  Comment your username down below, and I'll choose one of you at random to receive a Masterpiece of Clyde.

Aaaaaand, yeah, that's all for today's post, have a wonderful day full of kind phantoms and not being sick!  Byeeeeeee!

Blogger Portrait -- Ja983!

Yo, Jammers! Karalee here!

This week, we've got a chibi Blogger many of you know well -- the super-cool JA983!

Ja listed her skintone as tan, and her hair as "a lighter brown". I attempted to get that balance of colors right... did I do it okay, Ja?

I'm very happy with how the Bow And Arrows turned out -- *realizes that once again, she forgot the strap* -- AAGH! 😱

*grumps at forgetfulness* Maybe ONE of these days I'll remember. 😝

Ja's T-shirt comes from the colors of her animal, King Toughbunny, and the contrasting color of her pants comes from the darker shadow on the inside of the Bunny's ear.

(Tiny easter egg here: Chibi Ja's black shoes with the round white shine on them were actually inspired by her Bunny's eyes!)

...Now I'm imagining shoes with blinking eyes on them.

Eww.

That's all for this week, I hope to see you again soon with another *booming announcer voice* BLOGGER PORTRAIT!

PEACE!
LOVE!

In Sheep Shape!

ACHOO~!!

*sniffle*

Hey Jammers, Arctic here! I've been sick for the past week  (and have had too much stuff going on at school to stay home) and I've been suffering it out accordingly! I apologize if you missed me on the AJC yesterday - this was the reason!

This didn't stop me, however, from making a really quick edit in the afternoon when I was feeling a bit better!

I realized I've never done a pet edit before, so I decided to attempt one. I've always thought pet sheep would be adorable, so I tried!

First, a fancy red and yellow sheep:

Next, a cute little green sheep:

A classic white sheep:

And the options for eyes!

Not baaad not baaad (ba-dum tshh)! Sorry about this edit being a bit underwhelming! It's very simple and quickly made haha! I wanted to make a couple different sheep with different hair-do's, colours, and eyes, just so it'd give you all an idea of how the pet might look!

I definitely don't think this is all I'll be doing with this edit. I really would like to play around with it a bit more!

Sorry again for how quick this edit and post are - you can't really get up to much if you're sick!

See you soon!

See ya later!

Hope you like it Gracaie :D The only thing that I do not like about this painting, is the bow :/ I couldn't get it to look right at all, but I really like how her hair turned out! :D

Anyways, that's all for now Jammers! Remember when drawing be patient, and never give up!

An Edit, Some Art, and a Meme!

Hello hello everyone! Man, good thing I remembered I had to post today! I had quite a lot to do when it came to AJ, but I'm here now!

Today's post will be shorter than my typical ones, due to the fact that I have to get off the computer VERY soon, but hopefully, you'll still enjoy it! Let's get started!

Okay! So, for those of you that talked to me on the hangout, you may remember that I said I was planning on making an edit of an Animal Jam Blogger Plaque! I definitely think this should be a thing- without AJ bloggers, the AJ community wouldn't be what it is today! There are plaques for making videos- why not one for blogging, too?
So, without further ado, here is... THE BLOGGER PLAQUE!

Original picture not taken by me, but the edit is. :)
This edit took a LOT longer than expected, because I messed up so many times! Sorry- I'm not exactly a professional at editing- definitely not as good as Arcticstar, that's for sure- but I tried to make it look pretty real, and I'm actually quite proud of this! I couldn't add a sparkle or anything, though, because, like I said, I'm an amateur.
Oh, and I also used Paint to make this.
... Yeah.
Oh, and sorry about the words down there! I had to switch to piZap for the text, and there was nothing I could use that really matched the text AJ uses.
Anyways, what do you guys think? :D

Next up, my art for Gracie's blogger story project!
Some of you may have seen it already, but if you haven't, here you go!
Let me add a few things to the post I made first showcasing this art, since I was in a rush at that time!

- The girl with the green shirt getting sucked into the portal is Flora. I didn't know what she wanted her outfit to be, so I gave her a green shirt because that's just how I imagined it. XD!

- I was originally going to make the portal green, like how my version of the Blogger Portal looks, but then I thought "Hold on- this isn't a BLOGGER PORTAL! It's a portal that can transport you ANYWHERE!"
So I decided to make it a dark purple. Portals CAN be different colors, after all! XD!

- The featured people, from left to right, are Lostfairy, Flora Cutegirl, Coolcat, Gracie, and the mysterious blonde-haired girl from the first chapter of the story.

- For those of you that are silently wondering whether or not I know that EVERYONE is affected by gravity on Earth, Coolcat is SUPPOSED to be slightly floating like that! You know how, in some cartoons, if the floor disappears beneath them, they kinda float in the air for a moment before falling? That's what I tried to do with Coolcat. :D

And FINALLY, a recent AJ meme I made around AJ's birthday! It was when

Once again, I couldn't match AJ's font with piZap. XD!
Oh, and the party hat and... anime-angry-symbol-thing... belong to the Internet. XD!
Honestly, though, I feel like I did a pretty good job with this, hehe!

Welp, that's all I have for now! Hope you guys enjoyed this post! Please remember to PARTY HARD, BE KIND, and JAM ON until I return next Saturday, everyone! Swirl OUT!
*Drops mic*
Okay, I'll stop. XD!

P.S. Gracie, I'm sorry I'm not done with your art for the raffle yet! I'll get it done very soon!

Art for +Potya (and how I made it!)

Heyo, Jammers!  Crazcatlover here, back with a blog post!  Today, I wanted to work on practicing color theory and composition in my art.  I know these sound really complicated, but don't click away from the post!  Their names may sound complicated and intimidating, but color theory and composition are actually rather simple.  This post isn't exactly an art lesson anyways, so I won't go too in-depth about them, but I encourage you to look them up if you're interested!

Anyways, I've done a lot of experimenting with color theory with designing characters and my non-AJ drawings, but when working with something like Animal Jam avatars, it's not really up to me what colors the character has.  However, what I can do is work with what I have.  And besides, you don't need to only use the exact colors, patterns, or even accessories of the AJ avatars you draw.

So with that in mind, I went to Google+ to see if anyone wanted their AJ avatars drawn, and +Potya (aka kitten1778) did, so drew her AJ tiger!  Since this whole drawing was kind of an experiment, I decided to put together an 'inspiration board' for the piece so that I could have a basic idea of what to draw before I began.

I originally intended to draw Potya's hamster along with her tiger, but in the end I didn't include it in the drawing.  After I put together this inspiration board, I started sketching what I had in mind on a piece of printer paper.

First I came up with this very rough sketch...

... and then this.  I went for a more steampunk-style for the wings, and I really like how they turned out!  The rough sketch was a bit too rough, though, so I ended up having to transfer the drawing to another piece of paper for the 'lineart'.

To do so, I did a DIY-carbon-paper technique involving rubbing a pencil on the other side of the paper that the sketch is on, and then tracing over the lines of the drawing.  While I normally draw using a mechanical pencil, I used a regular wooden pencil for this since the lead is thicker and easier to rub onto the paper.

And viola- the finished lineart!  Once I finished adding in all the little details to the lineart, I scanned it into the computer and made the white areas transparent so that I could color underneath them.

I made a layer underneath the line-art and colored it in entirely in this blue color; partly so that I could easily select it to keep the color within the lines, and also so that I could have a base color to use to help me make all the colors cohesive.

I added in the basic colors, and kept color theory in mind while choosing the colors.  Rather than just pick the colors from the image of +Potya's tiger, I adjusted the hue, vibrancy, and saturation of the base color in order to keep everything nice and organized.  (I must admit, at this point, the face kinda reminded me more of a monkey than a tiger... heh)

I added some really basic shading to a new layer so as to avoid messing up the basic coloring.  I love to add tons of detail and shading to my drawings, but I wanted to keep this piece relatively simple.

And then, it was time to conquer my greatest fear (er, art fear at least)... the background!  *Dun dun DUNNNN*  I must admit, I find drawing landscapes and other scenery very difficult.  I decided to do a sunset for the background, since red is blue's complementary color, and sunsets are red.  Of course, I found a photo of a sunset to look at, just to make sure I wasn't completely messing the whole thing up.

And at last, I added some final lighting details, including some light around the eyes for more contrast.  My goal was to bring the focus to the face.  I really like how this drawing turned out; definitely let me know what you think!  I know this post was a bit different from normal, but I hoped you enjoyed it!  I promise next week's post won't be all about complicated art theories, but since I've been learning color theory and whatnot recently, I wanted to share that with you guys :)

That's all for today, I hope you have a fabulous day full of sunny skies and low humidity (because even a beautiful sunny day is hard to enjoy if the air is wet).  Byeeeeee~

KaraLATE

I'm late

Very late

A day late

Yesterday was

Busy

There was

Bible study

and

Laundry

and

CHICKENS!! *clucking noise, feathers fluttering*

...

(Okay, I'm kidding, there were no chickens.)

The bottom line is, I was supposed to post yesterday, and... I... forgot. Completely.

I am really, really sorry, guys. *facepalm* This will NOT happen again if I can help it.

HOWEVER.

I am here now, for what it's worth, and I bring chibi art of Graciepopstar91, the winner of the latest art raffle! *presents her peace offering*

I used the accent color of the scarf for her big, shining eyes. 😊

Chibi Gracie must have taken her Longbow off to pose for the portrait -- and the strap that should have been attached to it is nowhere to be seen. 😝

I am especially pleased with the hair! It's so poofy, and the new style I tried for drawing braids is REALLY fun and easy! 😁

I hope you loaf it, Gracie! 😉 That's all for now, but I will set reminders on my phone, and hope that next week's post will be on time!

PEACE!
LOVE!

A Chibi and Tired Purplestarclub

Hello theeeere! ~ Purple here! It's been quite a while since I've last drawn a full art piece and so I decided to do that today since I had some time. ^.^

I couldn't really think of something to draw at first, but then I used an online wheel decider thingy and it chose the idea of drawing a chibi. So, that's what I did! XD
I drew my AJ wolf as a chibi but also super tired! She looks like she just woke up. It looks like someone didn't get enough sleep last night. XD
I had very little time and so I didn't add a lot of details, but I think it looks better simple. ^.^'
The anatomy is really bad but as I said before, I had very little time. :P Drawing the mouth was very frustrating. It just wouldn't look right no matter what I tried but then I was just, ''Oh gosh, I quit.'' lol

Oh and I used really thick lineart this time and I can say I like it! :D

(If you're curious, I drew my hair really short because it puffs up when it's not brushed and I just got a haircut a few days ago.)

Anyways, that's all I have for this post. I'll see you all in my next post. Bye!

Random Masterpiece Screenshot Dump!

Okay, I'm not late, am I!?
*Checks time*
Oh thank goodness- I don't think I am!

Anyways, hello once again, all you fabulous bloggers! I'm sorry- I would've made this post a bit sooner, but I was talking with a few of the other bloggers for a while on another email account, XD!

Today, instead of going through all my photos of Masterpieces and picking out ones with a common theme, I decided that, to get this post up sooner, I'd pick a few ones in a random order and showcase them today!

Let's- oh, I almost forgot! As you all probably know, the winner of the art raffle is Graciepopstar91! I have entered the raffle this time, so that means that I'll be making the winner a picture of their animal! I haven't started it yet, but don't worry- I WILL have it up sometime in the very near future!

Okay, NOW let's get on with the post! XD!

I saw this one very recently, in AJHQ's den, and MAN, I LOVE the detail in this! As you can see, this is the Temple Of Zios, when Zios's mask has been restored! I love the added phantoms, fleeing from Zios, and all those little stones on the ground couldn't have been easy, along with the detail on Zios's mask! Merrycat, you are an epic artist!
I love this kind of art- where someone makes a realistic image out of bright, unnatural colors- and Thescatsbury did a remarkable job! Man, if tiger were actually these colors, I'd probably love them even more! XDD!
Looking back on this Masterpiece, which I took a picture of FOREVER ago, I can honestly say... this has GOT to be one of my favorite cartoon-ish art pieces out there! I love how the white outline around the animal makes it stand out from the background- which is also amazing, by the way! Blizzard303 is an awesome artist!
Here's a cute little Jirachi, made by Sheia, who makes lots of beautiful Pokemon art! I love how the eyes look so round and adorable, and.. AHH, I JUST WANNA HUG IT! XDD!
The background is also beautiful- those sparkles look perfect!
I THINK I also found this Masterpiece in AJHQ's den once, made by Mangel26! It's the Wildworks logo! It may not look to hard to make, but i gotta say, the value really makes it look like the real logo itself, and the AJ ladybug is also a nice touch! I can kinda imagine this Wildworks creature as a stuffed animal... maybe some kind of Budsie?
One of the best phantom pictures out there, in my opinion, created by Nifkit (Yikes I just realized...)
I abbsolutely LOVE the detailed background, and the phantom with the spiked head really stands out! Perhaps he's some kind of leader or co-leader?
And finally, a beautiful lion head, made by the one and only Djponyrocks! I love how each strand of hair in the mane has a design- looks like something from one of those detailed coloring books!
Photo not mine
See?

Alright! That's about it for now! I hope you all have a wonderful day (or week, in fact!), and please remember to PARTY HARD, BE KIND, and JAM ON, bloggers! Swirl OUT! ✌
